WARP Releases London Sinfonietta CD Featuring Interpretations of Aphex, Squarepusher

Posted by Joyrex on 09/06/2006 at 10:32 AM

WARP144This beautiful double cd housed in a deluxe package with a 12 page booklet contains music from two collaborations between Warp and the London Sinfonietta at the South Bank centre, and the second from a Contemporary Music Network Tour which visited Liverpool and Brighton in 2004.

Links can be forged; both John Cage and Aphex have developed work with altered detuned Pianos featured here. Both Conlon Nancarrow and Squarepusher imagined music that humans can't physically play. Varèse reorganised rhythms and imagined music when humans would become obsolete, but had to make do with trying to imagine this time using an orchestra. Artists like Ligeti wanted to write music for strings that sounded like the movement of electricity, whilst Steve Reich wanted his musicians, mimicking tape reels and earlier phasing experiments he had worked on. Stockhausen imagined the mystery and magick of electricities forces working in short wave radio to beam down messages from the Cosmos.Balanced on this cd are orchestral interpretations of Aphex and Squarepusher with pieces from all the artists mentioned above.
